WHIST – Wound Healing In Surgery for Trauma is NIHR-HTA funded Randomised Controlled Trial comparing Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NWPT) dressings for closed surgical wounds with standard dressings in the context of trauma surgery.

The trial is running within the treatment of adult patients having surgical incisions for major trauma to the lower limb. This study is funded by the National Institute of Health Research. The Chief Investigator is Prof Matt Costa, whose research interest is in clinical and cost effectiveness of musculoskeletal interventions. He is Chief Investigator for a series of randomised trials supported by grants from the UK National Institute of Health Research and Musculoskeletal Charities.
